August 2 heading south
Small fishing outpost - many are set up to allow tourists to rent out the old fishing shacks.
Dried cod. Many of the buildings in the Lofoten Islands are painted red. The red paint used to be made with fish blood and cod oil.
Drying racks for cod are everywhere in the Lofoten Islands. They catch the cod in February and dry them during the winter months. When dried, the cod can be used as a weapon!
Henningsvaer in the Lofoten Islands. We took a bus tour out the fishing village of Hennigsvaer, then rejoined our ship at Stamsund before the long passage east to Bodo and the mainland while we slept. Actually while we tried to sleep as the waves pounded the ship.

Arctic Cathedral in Tromso across the harbor

Continuing south from Hammerfest, arrived in Tromso in time for the midnight concert at the Arctic Cathedral. Norwegian folk tunes and classics. Next time I'll opt for the afternoon version since midnight is definitely past my bedtime! Continuing south we again enter the beautiful Trollfjord and work our way through the Beautiful Lofoten Islands once more.

August 1 - Sami telling us about his culture - notice who is taking a picture from the other side! We are sitting on genuine reindeer skins and later ate genuine reindeer meat (we think).
July 31 - 10:30Pm - crew members taking a dip at Berlevag. They jumped about 15 feet from the pier into the very cold water at the harbor. They then swam very rapidly to shore! Many passengers were watching from the ship and gave them a big applause as they ran shivering back to the ship.July 31 at Kirkenes on the Norway Russia border

It's a long way to Oslo - about 1500 miles! Only 1200 miles to the North Pole!
